Alligator Queen

Returning to New Orleans 18 years after Hurricane Katrina, young Isabella  “Bella” Bardeaux reconnects with a family she hardly knows. She delves into a city she has never forgotten, despite everything it has taken away from her, and that amazes her with its music, its mysteries and its violence. However, her homecoming takes a dark turn when she’s dropped dead in a graveyard on the edge of a bayou after an altercation with a group of white racists and her aunt begs the spirits of their ancestors to come and help her, Baron Samedi refuses to dig her grave. The case is archived and deemed unsolved by an understaffed police reluctant to spend more time on this “incident”. With no evidence nor a lead, what can they do? She’ll have to be more careful next time. However, the protective loas of the graveyard, witnesses to the event, demand restitution. And the gods have no use to human justice.
